Boston Thoughts

Well gollee, after walking around historic Boston for a couple of days, I am wondering: Who’s a Patriot?

Robert Newman, the Old North Church sexton who may have been the lookout raised a lamp or two to alert Paul Revere that the Brits were coming? Yes, a patriot!

Captain John Pulling, who also may have raised the lamp(s)? Yes!

Paul Revere? No question about Paul! a brave patriot indeed.

John Adams? No doubt about it; these guys were patriots, defenders of our liberty from the beginning.

Washington, Jefferson, et al? Oh yeah, oh yeah, no doubt about all those early American Constitution-signatores and leaders. . . John Hancock . . . yeah, all of them guys. Moving right along . . .

Abraham Lincoln? Definitely.

Col. Robert Shaw? Union officer in the war of Southern aggression, abolitionist who led the 54th Regiment—first all-black regiment. He gave his life so that men and women of all races could be free. Yes, a true patriot!

Bill Russell? Center for Boston Celtics, 1956-1969, 5-time Most Valuable Player in NBA. Sure, why not?

Tom Brady? One of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time; he led the Boston Patriots to 7 Super Bowl victories. Pretty impressive, but Tom skipped out and went to Tampa. Tom, great as he was, chose to complete his great run as a Buccaneer instead of a Patriot.

Rosa Parks? Yes. A woman of great courage who initiated the breaking of oppression.

Dr. Martin Luther KIng Jr. Yes. Giving his life for Liberty is the greatest, last full measure of true patriotism.

John Lewis, who marched with Dr. King across the Pettus bridge and thereby set the civil rights movement into overdrive. A true Patriot!

Al Gore? Former Vice-President. Yes. Al knew when to step down when our Constitutional democratic-republican system of governance told him it was time to step aside.

Mike Pence? Former Vice-President. He did the right thing at the right time when it mattered most. Definitely a courageous man, a true patriot.

The Loser? who wouldn’t take his ball and go home when the American people decided his time was up, and who chose to incite a riot at the very heart of our governance instead of accepting our rule of Law. No way, Donald. Read ‘em and weep.
