Rearranging Roses
I heard it in the wind last night;
Now I see it in the autumn bright
falling leaves in glorious applause
as summer takes a three-month pause
The glories drifting down and all around
in golden flight with rustling sound
It seems like many dim years ago
we moved into this forest space;
every breeze brings down a whispering trace
of what has grown and died this year.
The trees shed their heritage with a leafy tear.
I catch these glimpses of forest flutter
that whirl and twirl down to our gutter.
In our home this writer resides
to witness glory as the forest glides.
There was a time when this father was a singer
in past a musician, but now a bringer
of life and love to to the woman, the son and daughters,
a marriage of heaven and earth, doing what we oughter
I remember the days when I used to sit
and sing songs in guitar modal grit.
Yet now we prosper ‘cause we’re grateful
as the leaves float down so graceful
here in our homestead planted in the woods
where the trees spread their leafy hoods
Life has brought us so much joy and love
as years fly by like the fluttering flying dove.
Now I live up here, the old guy; the world shines bright
as all that grows on Appalachian wooded heights.
We received the call to worship the Son of Man, the Lord
who survived the hammers, the nails and wounding of the sword.
I hear the trees in the rustling fall, in glorious applause
as Creation celebrates the seasons with a colorful pause.
Chilly now, end of summer,
no more shiny hot nights
It was just the arbutus rustling
and the waltzing of the trees
as they wave goodbye to summer
in the Way, the Truth and autumn Light.
